The Dandelion Is A Weed

Spring is one of the four seasons and there are plenty of people who would choose spring over the others. According to them, spring is about hope. Spring is also a miracle. This is because they say that after the cold months of winter, spring brings everything around you back to life. That is some kind of magic and that is what spring has the ability to do. This is season is about bringing back all those plants from hibernation and make them alive once more.

One of those plants is the dandelion. For many, they believe that this is a plant that produces the most wonderful flowers. However, for those who have lawns or gardens, the dandelion to them is not just any plant – for them, it is an enemy because it is a weed. And this weed flourishes that great during its peak season which falls on the months of April until May. It has broad leaves and produces yellow flowers. It is also known as a perennial weed.

Beauty is definitely something that dandelions have. But this weed also has some tricks that makes it thrive even when you do not want it to. One of the secrets that the dandelion has is its fleshy taproot. This one goes deep down so you will have to exert effort to take it out by hand. Also, this weed has yellow flowers that become puffy seeds during maturity. These seeds are then blown by the wind and are spread out so come spring next year, the dandelions on soil will again bloom.

Dandelions may look good on your lawn or your garden but if you think that such a weed is just not right for what you had worked on, then you can actually take it out. One of the techniques that most people resort to is to actually pull them out by hand. But that takes quite some time and quite a lot of effort since the taproot really goes that deep down. Now you can also opt to use herbicides for dandelions. You should apply the chemical once every 5 to 6 weeks to do the trick. You will know that it is working when the leaves of the weed start to wither. It may take you around six applications to successfully finish what you started.

The experience of having dandelions in your lawn or garden has left you wanting that they do not come back at all. What you can do is get the grass growing and mow it to the second highest setting. That should keep the grass tall enough to block any sunlight and crowd the seeds out. You can also spray pre-emergent herbicide in April so that the seeds do not grow.

Drought And Shallow Watering

Drought. Oh drought. Do you not just hate looking at that wonderful garden of yours having patches or areas turning brown already? Oh certainly you hate the fact that after all the hard work that you have put into it, only drought will be the one to actually mar what would have been a wonderful place to stay in and just relax in.

What is drought? What is it really? Do you not know? Well, if you do not, then you should be one of the very few in the world who does not really know what this phenomenon is and what it brings. Drought has actually been happening around the globe for years and years and years already and it has been documented in really old books and even if you do read the Bible, you will find out that it has also been discussed there. When drought makes it way to the soil, you know that it can bring about much damage and that is something that you do not want to happen.

If you are thinking just when has drought happened to our country, then it may be difficult because it does not happen that much here. However, a milder version of drought happens a lot but on a much smaller scale so much so that it usually goes unnoticed or is easily given a solution so that it does not stay there that long. One of the causes of drought (in your lawn or garden since we are talking small scale here) is shallow watering. Some say that this is usually because of some neglect that you did yourself and because of that, you are to blame for this happening to your precious piece of land. But there are things that you can do so that you can solve that problem and the first things that you need to act on is to actually know what you are dealing with. That way, you will know how to handle the situation and what you can do to stop it.

What you should know about watering your lawn or your garden is that even if you do water it frequently, it does not mean that drought will not make its home there. The thing is, there are certain things that you should follow when it comes to giving your lawn or garden the moisture that it needs. Even if you do water it frequently without the right amount of water, it does not penetrate deeper. The sun may steal it. Other weeds may also use the water instead. But the grass just is not getting the water it needs. With that comes drought.

Is there a solution? Or are you going to be stuck with a lawn that has got brown patches on some areas? Well, you can still make your lawn or your garden go back to its original green. All you have to do is water it and making sure that the water you give is enough to supply the whole amount of plants with moisture when it needs such. So you can bring out your screwdriver and dig in. If you have ten inches of moisture, then you are all set.

Neoma Archer will share with you tips on lawn care. This experienced gardener is more than willing to do that.

Uneven Drying Leads To Drought

Do you own a lawn (or a garden perhaps)? Do you love it so much? Do you make sure that it gets the things that it needs to look pristine and totally green? Do you spend much time on it that your family knows where to find you in case they need you and that is right where your lawn is? Do you even know that you are spending too much time on it? Or do you not even know that you have spent most of your waking hours tending to it and working on it?

Not all people will believe that too much of something can definitely go wrong. Have you ever heard of stories of people loving someone too much that the other person felt like he (or she) is suffocating from all that love? Well, your garden or your lawn may not feel the same suffocation but even if you do give it too much love and care and that love and care is misguided, well, that can definitely go the opposite direction than what you are actually aiming for. Make sure that you know about the health of your lawn. Check if it is right. Somewhere in that piece of soil, there may be things that you do not know about. Right at a glance, the lawn may seem right but deep down, there may be some things that need a remedy.

Your lawn or your garden can actually experience some wrong things and that wrong thing could start with how you water it. Although it is a basic thing to do – that watering duty – but there are some things connected to it that you should know about. You may think that it is just about giving your lawn or your garden the water that it needs. That may be your perception but there are even more things that you should know about than just that. What you should do is check if the water has gone down deep enough. If not, then that means that you should add the volume of water that you give to your lawn. That way, you are making sure that drought does not happen.

What should you do about the situation of drought? Well, experts are very much happy to share what they know about this phenomenon. And when it comes to your lawn or your garden, you have to make sure that you are doing it the right way. Check the whole area and see if you have places where the soil has got much sand. Or maybe there are some rocky patches around. These can actually be the causes why some spots are getting brown spots because the water just does not go down deep enough unlike the other areas.

But that is something that you should not worry too much about because the remedy is pretty simple. All you have to do is find out just which parts are not getting the right amount of water. If one gets too little, then make sure that you give it a little bit more so that everything will be evened out.

Drought Because Of Uneven Watering

Peace and relaxation. These are what you actually find here. And no matter how hard you try to find different avenues or channels so that you could relax and have peace, you just cannot find another. This is the only thing that works and works really well for you. This is the heart of the reason and why you want to give it your time and your effort and you want to give it what it needs. Your lawn (or perhaps the garden that you really love) is what you call your comfort zone.

Not wanting to have drought on your lawn or your precious garden is definitely one thing. Not doing anything to make it go away is also another. This is the reason why you should know just what to do when this happens to that beloved piece of land. If you do it right, you should be able to make it go away. You do not want your garden or your lawn to be dry – you want it to be full of life and totally green.

You love your lawn. You make sure that you give it the right amount of care that you can definitely give. But it does not matter if you give it your all. What matters is that there are times when those that you hate seeing on it just comes popping up. Like drought. This is one of those things that you hate having on that piece of really cared for land. And what you should know is that what you do actually can bring in drought. It may sound not good but it is reality.

Check your sprinkler system. You have one, right? After all, almost everybody has got one and you just do not have the time to actually water that whole piece of land manually. So you got your lawn (or your garden) a sprinkler system. And you believe that it is working really well. But did you know that your sprinkler system can actually be the cause why there is drought there now? Well, that is correct and that happens because elements and time can take its toll on the system thus leave some areas not watered.

If you are going to check, you will see that your sprinkler system is not working like it was supposed to be. In fact, it is not even working that well. This is perhaps the reason why you have drought on your lawn (or your garden). You just have given all the responsibility of watering to the system and you did not check it yourself. If you did, you may have saved yourself the trouble of going through your lawn and checking which parts are not watered and which ones are.

Of course there is a solution. As they say, there is not a problem that does not come with one. So what you should do is find out which parts of your lawn are not getting the water that it deserves. Then check your sprinkler and see if you tinker with it so that it waters the whole area right.

Drought Comes In Stages

In case you do not know, yes, drought comes in stages and there are even times when experts or those who are into this type of thing will tell you about the different stages of drought. Such may be too much for you but it is really important that you know just what you are looking at especially if you have a lawn or a garden. You do not want drought to happen to your precious piece of land that you have tended to and cared for.

When drought comes visiting, it usually stays. Unless you do something about it, there are two things that are going to be affected by its residency. One of these is the health of the lawn or the garden that drought has chosen to live on. You may not actually see it but there are cases when your lawn actually has drought in the early stages. Deep beneath the soil and right in the plants, that is where the health of the lawn deteriorates. Just like a person can look healthy when in fact he is really not well.

Another thing that drought affects is the appearance of your garden or your lawn. Some people love looking at their lawns or gardens because it shows them just how hard they have worked on it. But if drought sets in, that beauty that you see right now would definitely be gone. You surely do not want that to happen. So experts are saying that what you should do is make sure that you know about drought and what you can do to make sure that it will not stay in your piece of land you love.

Temporary drought. That is what they call the first stage of drought. When this stage will actually set in if your lawn or your garden does not get the right amount of moisture for a week at most. A dark grayish hue will be your grass’ color when this happens. If you try to stick a screwdriver right into the soil and it is hard to do, then temporary drought has set in.

Permanent drought. That is the second stage. This second stage happens when the lawn or the garden that you have is not able to receive the right amount of moisture for a week at the very least. The leaves of the grass would already be colored golden or brown. A very bad sign for lawn lovers.

There is a final stage still and this one is known as the history of drought. When your lawn or your garden hits this final stage of drought, there is really not much that you can do about it. After all, you may have been able to work on the other stages but it will be hard with this one. The soil is already too dry and there are only a few things growing in it at most.

When it comes to lawn care and drought, Neoma Archer knows about it.
